Bowel Cancer Screening Guidelines

In general your General practitioner will be advised, as part of your report, when your next procedure is recommended (if required).

Note: if in doubt contact your doctor.

  • Average risk (no risk factors) begin screening age 50
  • Previous unremakable colonoscopy or single small polyp without high grade dysplasia 5 yearly
  • multiple adenomas or other significant polyp: 3 years
  • Ulcerative colitis or colnic Crohn's disease >10 years colonoscopy every 2 years
  • Family history of bowel cancer before age 50 : 10 to 15 years before affected persons age at diagnosis
  • Hereditary bowel cancer syndrome: generally yearly, but check with doctor
  • Other circumstanances will be advised by your gastroenterologist
